Frequently Asked Questions

I need help with my order and design - how can I get in touch?

If you need assistance with your plastic id cards, feel free to call us at 01744 830 304 between 8.00 am – 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. You can also email sales@theplasticcardfactory.co.uk. Whether you are stuck on a design or have questions about how to print plastic cards online, we are here to talk you through it.

Design & Artwork

What format should my images be in?

PDF, JPEG, PNG, and several other formats are accepted when you use our tool to print plastic cards online.

What are the image requirements and resolution?

To ensure your id cards are printed with crystal clarity on our HP Indigo digital press, we recommend a resolution of 300dpi. If you are uploading a full background image or artwork, aim for at least 1000 x 1000 pixels. Smaller images may look pixelated when printed.

What colour model should they be designed in?

You can use RGB or CMYK. All images are automatically converted to CMYK when your plastic id cards are printed, regardless of what they were designed in.

Can I upload my own ‘ready-made’ designs and images?

Absolutely. Go to "Create ID Cards" and select a blank layout. You can then drag and drop your images, logos, and text directly into the template.

Can I create my own template?

Yes! By creating a free account, you can save your custom design. This makes it incredibly easy to amend or re-use that template to order more employee id cards in the future.

Why is my design looking blurred when uploaded?

Our online builder displays a lower-resolution preview to speed up the design process. To see the true quality, click the 'PDF Preview' button above the designer. If the PDF looks sharp, your images will be fine when printed. If it still looks blurred, your images may have been created in a program that isn't optimized for print (like Word, PowerPoint, or Paint).

What is the dotted red "bleed area" on the card templates?

The dotted red line shows the bleed area—this is where the card will be cut. We recommend your background image overlaps this line slightly to avoid a white edge, but ensure all important text stays safely inside it.

About Our Cards & Accessories

What size are the cards?

Our plastic id cards are standard CR80 size (86mm x 54mm), which is the exact same size as a standard credit card.

What are the cards made of and how durable are they?

Our cards are professionally manufactured in our UK factory and are very durable. They consist of a PVC core (with printing applied directly to the core via digital press). A protective, laminated overlay film is then bonded to the top of the printed image (front and back) to protect your cards from scuffs and scrapes.

What card accessories do you supply?

We provide a range of accessories to complement your employee id cards, including lanyards, badge holders, and badge reels. If you need your cards for visibility and access, there are several options available. Just like our cards, the unit price falls as your order quantity increases.

Will a lanyard clip fit the holes and slots?

Yes, the holes and slots (if selected) are designed to attach directly to a lanyard clip. Alternatively, you can add a badge holder and attach your lanyard to that. Please remember to keep important text or logos away from the hole/slot area in your design!

Pricing & Ordering

How much are your cards?

The more cards you buy in a single order, the lower the unit price per card. Please refer to our Pricing page for full details.

Does the unit price discount still apply if my designs are all different?

Yes! It doesn't matter if all the plastic id cards in your order are the same or if each one is completely different—the bulk discount applies to the total quantity.

I want to order employee id cards with different names or details - is this possible?

Yes, of course. For a small number of cards, you can do this manually. For larger orders, you can use our "Multi Designer" tool to upload a data table of names. Once you create a master design, the system will automatically pull a different set of details onto each card.

Does it cost more to print both sides?

No, you can have double-sided id cards printed without paying extra. Simply design your front and reverse using the card builder tool.

Does it cost more to add a slot or hole?

No, you can add one using the design tool without paying extra. Simply select from the holes/slots drop-down menu.

Delivery & Postage

How much is postage?

It is a flat rate of £5.99 for secure courier delivery to most UK addresses. Overseas costs vary and can be selected at checkout.

How soon will I receive my order?

Your order should be with you 2 working days after ordering. All plastic id cards are manufactured and shipped the day after you order, and dispatched by next-day courier. For example: Order on Monday, your cards ship on Tuesday, and are delivered on Wednesday.

How will I receive my order?

UK orders are sent via a secure DPD / APC next day courier (or occasionally Royal Mail Special Delivery). We usually use FedEx or Royal Mail for international deliveries. You will receive a tracking number by email once the goods have shipped.

Security & Data

How secure is the information I provide?

Very secure. All of our employee id cards are produced in-house at our St Helens-based factory in a secure environment. We are a division of Company Cards Limited, an ISO27001 registered firm. All hard copies are disposed of securely, and staff handle security products with the highest level of confidentiality.

Do you print official or fake IDs?

No. We reserve the right to refuse an order if sufficient evidence of its legitimacy cannot be given. We will not process plastic card print online orders that include official logos or certifications without proof of permission. Orders rejected due to fraud will not receive a refund.
